Let Your Little Light Shine.

Make the world a brighter place.

Just as blowing out someone else's candle doesn’t make yours burn brighter, putting out your own light doesn’t help to illuminate the world. Hiding your talents, self-deprecating words, and being shy about the amazing person you want to become are not useful or inspiring.

I get why we do it. There is a delicate balance between arrogance and confidence and we fear crossing that line probably more than we fear criticism. But thoughts are potent and eventually, by constantly living in the darkness and hiding in the shadows, we will lose ourselves and our self-worth. There is a way speak about ourselves with positivity and light without feeling awkward and pompous.  I know it, because we encourage others - our family, our friends, our KIDS - to do it all the time.

Marianne Williamson authored a poignant quote that shifted my perspective and undoubtedly changed my own internal dialogue. She said,

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?” Actually, who are you NOT to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are meant to shine, as children do, and in doing so we give other people permission to do the same."

If you want to inspire the people in your life, show them how. Let your light shine and watch it illuminate the path for others.

It’s Self Love Sunday. Do what you love, love who you are.  Only then can you share your fortune.

Happy Sunday!
